My site is almost ready, the sandbox link is above. When viewing my site on my iPhone there is no text on the slider and no READ MORE link. Is there a workaround for this, am I missing a setting somewhere, or is it just part of the responsive version? My slider message is an important part of the welcome to my site.

Yes, that is part of the responsive version since the text will be too small to view on mobile device like iPhone and there may not be enough space to display the slider text so it is hidden on responsive mode.
Anyway, you can try to customize the CSS in "/css/fineliner-responsive.css" file to make some changes as per your requirement.
