For your question, yes, you can simply upload a square Featured Image and it will fill that space and display as a square. You can try uploading a 355x355 image to make it fit the space.

first of all thank you for this amazing theme! it is clean, minimal and efficacious as I was looking for, but I have a question to modify some parts:
It is possible to fill up the thumbnail white space to have just a square image? (to fill the white space that I have circled in the image attached).
